Description of Work
This is a temporary, full-time position. There are no leave benefits associated with this position.This position serves as a key contributor to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Rail Division’s Rail Programs unit, focusing on the marketing, public outreach, and administrative support for the state's passenger rail service, NC By Train. The Associate is responsible for assisting with communication strategies, visual and written content, and participating in community events to promote rail ridership and positive public perception. This role requires a blend of creative marketing skills, logistical competence, and a commitment to customer-facing support that will maximize revenue and ridership growth on the Piedmont and Carolinian services.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC02 $31,200 - $51,249
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Working knowledge of technical communication and marketing principles and industry software, with the ability to learn quickly and be flexible.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively research information using online sources and telephone outreach to generate compelling content for websites, social media, and advertising
- Experience assisting with the creation of social media content intended for public transit, travel, or hospitality industries.
- Demonstrated ability to independently perform essential clerical and logistical tasks, including preparing materials for mailing, shipping, and local delivery
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to strict operational safety protocols and maintain a professional demeanor while working in public-facing environments
- Demonstrated ability to use clear and professional verbal communication when supporting and executing in-person outreach, such as engaging the public at tabling events
Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
