Job description
About the job
The Shipping and Receiving Associate supports inbound and outbound material flow for manufacturing operations, ensuring materials and finished goods are received, stored, issued, and shipped accurately and on time. This role plays a key part in maintaining inventory accuracy, supporting production schedules, and meeting customer delivery commitments.
In this position, the Shipping and Receiving Associate owns inventory activities within their area of responsibility, including material transactions, organization, and cycle counts. The role is also responsible for executing customer-specific shipping requirements, including custom packaging and labeling configurations, and ensuring shipments are completed in alignment with company delivery expectations.
Because we operate in a small, high-mix manufacturing environment, this role’s work hours and daily priorities align with production and shipment requirements, and the role may support additional operational activities such as production planning or material coordination as needed by the business.
Here’s where you’ll focus in this position
- Receive, inspect, and process inbound materials and components, ensuring accuracy, condition, and documentation are verified prior to inventory storage or issuance.
- Prepare, package, and ship outbound materials and finished goods in accordance with customer requirements, carrier guidelines, and company procedures, including scheduling carrier pickups and preparing shipping documentation.
- Own inventory accuracy within assigned areas, including proper material storage, transaction execution, barcode scanning, and routine cycle counts to maintain system and physical alignment.
- Execute customer-specific shipping configurations, including custom packaging, standard and serialized labeling, documentation, and traceability to meet contractual and delivery requirements.
- Coordinate shipment timing and priorities to align with production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
- Maintain organized, safe, and compliant shipping and receiving areas, following material handling, safety, and ESD requirements as applicable.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies related to receipts, shipments, or inventory transactions, escalating issues as needed.
- Support production planning and material coordination activities as requested, providing flexibility to meet changing business and shipment demands.
- Adjust work hours as needed, including occasional early starts or late finishes, to meet shipment and delivery deadlines.
Your areas of knowledge and expertise
- Knowledge of shipping and receiving processes for inbound materials and outbound finished goods in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of inventory control fundamentals, including material transactions, location management, cycle counting, and reconciliation of physical and system inventory.
- Familiarity with ERP-based shipping and inventory workflows, including Epicor receiving, issuing, and shipping transactions and Epicor Quick Ship.
- Understanding of customer-specific shipping requirements, including custom packaging, labeling, documentation, and traceability expectations.
- Knowledge of material handling, storage, and organization practices to maintain inventory accuracy and safe working conditions.
- Knowledge of common causes of receiving, shipping, and inventory discrepancies, including shortages and inventory variances, and how to resolve them.
- Familiarity with coordination between shipping, receiving, production planning, and manufacturing teams to support material flow and delivery schedules.
- Understanding of how shipping accuracy, inventory integrity, and on-time delivery impact customer satisfaction and overall operational performance.
