Job description

Family Medicine Residency Core Faculty

Inpatient Adult Medicine Curriculum Lead
About the Role
Are you a family medicine physician who loves teaching, thrives on inpatient medicine, and wants to help build a residency program from the ground up? Thundermist Health Center is launching a new Family Medicine Residency in affiliation with Tufts University School of Medicine, and we’re looking for a Core Faculty Member to lead the inpatient adult medicine curriculum. You’ll lead the family medicine inpatient team at Landmark Medical Center, develop inpatient rotation curriculum, precept residents in clinic, and maintain your own primary care panel at Thundermist. Your time splits roughly 50/50 between residency education and clinical practice. Thundermist is a multi-site FQHC serving over 65,000 patients across Rhode Island, based in Woonsocket — a diverse and medically underserved community just 20 minutes from Providence and 45 minutes from Boston.
What You’ll Do
Clinical Practice

Manage a primary care panel at Thundermist Health Center with approximately 16 hours per week of patient-facing clinic time
Provide inpatient hospital services on the family medicine teaching service at Landmark Medical Center (averaging one week of daytime call out of every three)
Participate in after-hours phone call coverage rotation (approximately 2–3 weeks per year, with nurse triage service as first line)
Prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostics, and coordinate care across disciplines and settings
Opportunities to practice in areas of interest including OBAT, obstetrics, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and more

Residency Education & Curriculum

Teach and supervise residents on the family medicine inpatient service at Landmark Medical Center
Lead curriculum development for inpatient medicine rotations
Serve as the residency liaison to the hospitalist and internal medicine academic service at the hospital
Precept residents in outpatient continuity clinics
Train family medicine clerkship medical students through Tufts School of Medicine
Participate in family medicine didactics, resident mentorship, evaluation, recruitment, and program improvement

Administrative

Dedicate approximately 4 hours per week to clinical administrative duties
Participate in departmental and team meetings
Maintain compliance with credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging requirements
Participate in quality improvement initiatives

What We’re Looking For
You’re a family physician who’s as comfortable rounding on a teaching service as you are managing a complex panel in community primary care. You’re drawn to academic medicine, energized by teaching, and committed to training the next generation of family doctors in a community that needs them.

M.D. or D.O. with completed residency (minimum 3 years) in Family Medicine
Ability to obtain a full, unrestricted Rhode Island medical license
Clinical experience on an inpatient adult medicine teaching service
Ability to obtain and maintain hospital privileges at Landmark Medical Center
Exceptional oral and written communication skills

Preferred:

Board Certification in Family Medicine (ABFM or ACOFP) within two years of start
Minimum 2 years of post-residency practice
Skills in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS)

Compensation & Benefits
Competitive compensation and benefits including: malpractice coverage through the Federal Tort Claims Act with additional gap coverage; 30 days of PTO (increasing with seniority) plus 6 paid holidays; 5 CME days with CME stipend; eligibility for state and federal loan repayment; 403(b) retirement plan with employer match; and academic appointment via Tufts University School of Medicine (rank commensurate with experience).
Thundermist is committed to provider wellness and is an AMA Joy in Medicine practice site. You’ll be supported by AI scribes, refill assistance with pharmacy technicians, prior authorization and referral support, cross-coverage support for PTO, and a nurse triage service as the first line for after-hours calls.
Schedule
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position. Approximately 50% of your time (20 hours) is reserved for residency education and administration — hospital rounding, precepting, curriculum development, and program administration. Of the remaining 20 hours, 16 hours are patient-facing in your own primary care clinic and 4 hours are dedicated to clinical administrative duties. The schedule averages one week of hospital daytime call out of every three, with non-hospital weeks comprising clinic and administrative responsibilities. Some periods of 24-hour phone call coverage are included.
Work Environment

Split between Thundermist Health Center (Woonsocket) and Landmark Medical Center
Ambulatory clinical and inpatient hospital settings
Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, stooping, and occasional lifting
Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, respiratory disease, infectious diseases, and other biohazardous materials requiring universal standard precautions

Our Values
Everything we do at Thundermist is guided by five core values: Integrity, Innovation, Excellence, Community, and Caring. If those resonate with you, you’ll feel at home here.
