Job description

CBS Austin (KEYE) is looking for a Multimedia Journalist to gather and share impactful stories in one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic markets in the country.

Austin and Central Texas are home to major stories every day, from state government and rapid growth to education, public safety, technology, transportation, and the issues affecting families across our communities. We’re looking for a journalist who is curious, competitive and ready to be in the middle of those stories.

As an MMJ, you will enterprise original story ideas, develop sources and report, shoot, write and edit compelling stories for our audiences. You’ll have opportunities to work alongside a photographer on larger assignments and special coverage, while continuing to strengthen your skills as a self-sufficient multimedia journalist.

This position works three weekdays and weekend shifts, playing an important role in driving our weekend coverage while remaining connected to the weekday content center and major developing stories.

You should be comfortable producing content across platforms, and ready to grow your live presence. Our MMJs contribute daily to television, streaming, digital, social media and mobile, with opportunities to go live across platforms as stories develop.

Responsibilities include:

  • Enterprise and pitch original, impactful story ideas
  • Develop sources and build relationships throughout Central Texas
  • Report, shoot, write and edit daily news stories and content on multiple platforms
  • Deliver compelling live reports from the field
  • Collaborate with photographers, producers and other journalists on major stories and special coverage
  • Respond quickly and creatively to breaking news

Skills and Experience:

  • Sharp news judgment and a strong understanding of what matters to local audiences
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, including knowledge of AP style
  • Ability to tell impactful stories on deadline
  • Excellent shooting, editing and technical skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative newsroom
  • Ability to develop sources and enterprise stories beyond the daily news cycle
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a good driving record

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of professional reporting experience is required
  • Experience with LiveU is a plus
  • Experience creating content for digital and social platforms is strongly preferred

If you’re looking for an opportunity to grow as a journalist, build sources, cover consequential stories and live and work in Austin, we’d like to hear from you.
