The employment contract will initially be fixed-term for one year and includes a six-month probationary period. The contract may become permanent after two years. Employment terms and compensation (including overtime pay) are governed by local law and are based on the standard employment contract for locally employed staff at German diplomatic missions in the United States and the applicable pay scale. Following a successful selection process, candidates must demonstrate medical fitness for employment through an examination conducted by a physician designated by the Consulate General before they can be hired. In addition, a security clearance/background check will be conducted. Applicants are expected to cooperate fully with both the medical examination and the security screening process.
