Job description
If you enjoy understanding the full financial picture, working directly with accounting leadership, and taking ownership of detailed work across multiple entities, this opportunity offers that breadth.
We’re conducting a confidential search for an Assistant Controller to support a privately held organization with business and investment activities. You’ll work closely with the Controller and CFO on accounting operations, financial reporting, and tax-related support.
This is a hands-on position for someone who brings sound accounting judgment and follows through on the details. You should feel equally comfortable reconciling accounts, researching a discrepancy, preparing financial statements, and helping leadership work through a more complex accounting question.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Varied work: Build on your accounting experience through exposure to multiple entities, investment accounting, and tax planning support.
- Direct access to leadership: Work closely with the Controller and CFO and contribute information they use to make decisions.
- Room to deepen your expertise: Learn from experienced accounting professionals and outside advisors.
- A long-term opportunity: Join an organization seeking someone who wants to develop a thorough understanding of its operations and contribute over time.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain general ledgers and accurate financial records across multiple entities.
- Prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and support month-end and year-end close.
- Prepare financial statements, account analyses, and supporting schedules.
- Record and reconcile intercompany activity, contributions, distributions, and investment transactions.
- Handle transactional accounting responsibilities, including receipts, disbursements, invoices, and expense reimbursements.
- Assist the internal tax team and external advisors with workpapers, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and information requests.
- Support tax and estate planning activities through financial analysis and documentation.
- Research discrepancies, resolve accounting issues, and maintain clear supporting records.
- Exercise discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
What You Bring
- A master’s degree in Accounting.
- Experience independently managing general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and closing activities.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
- The ability to organize competing priorities across multiple entities.
- A willingness to handle both routine transactions and complex assignments.
- Strong analytical skills, clear communication, and careful attention to accuracy.
- Professional judgment, integrity, and a consistent commitment to confidentiality.
Preferred: An active CPA license and experience in public accounting, investment accounting, or a closely held business. Tax experience is strongly preferred, but candidates with strong accounting fundamentals and a willingness to develop their tax knowledge should apply.
Location and Schedule
Beaumont is the preferred location; while Houston candidates may also receive consideration. The position requires regular in-office attendance and follows standard business hours, approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is not a remote position.
