Job description
Do you love books and the challenge of turning smart sales insights into meaningful growth? Are you energized by building trusted partnerships with accounts? If you are a strategic, relationship-driven sales professional who thrives on variety, this could be the perfect role for you!
Simon & Schuster is looking for an Account Manager to sell our complete list—Wholly-Owned Adult, Children's, Audio, and Distributed Client titles—to Brodart, B&N College, Follett Adult, and the Christian market. The role also works closely with commission representatives and supports homeschool accounts, offering the opportunity to reach readers through a broad and dynamic group of customers.
You will be a key sales partner to your accounts, using customer knowledge, market data, and sales analysis. You will independently manage account needs while collaborating with sales management, publishing teams, buyers, and commission representatives to maximize frontlist and backlist opportunities, strengthen promotional placement, and deliver excellent customer service.
Responsibilities include:
Lead monthly and seasonal sales calls with frontline buyers and commission representatives.
Build strong, productive relationships with accounts and use persuasive selling and negotiation skills to grow the business.
Proactively solicit frontlist, backlist and promotional orders across the full Simon & Schuster list.
Create monthly Edelweiss markup collections and clear, compelling title notes that support account buying decisions.
Analyze sales results, market data, and account needs.
Plan promotional placement and co-op programs, maintain detailed co-op records, and track results.
Support author events and event orders.
Manage order processing and resolve operational issues involving stock, orders, shipments, and tracking.
Respond promptly to inquiries and provide thoughtful support that strengthens customer satisfaction.
Attend and actively participate in seasonal sales conferences.
Share account feedback, market trends, and growth opportunities with sales management and publishing imprints.
Manage commission representative invoices.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years sales experience in a mid-size or large publishing company, or equivalent experience
Strong understanding of the publishing industry, including market trends, key players, and distribution channels.
Demonstrated ability to persuade, negotiate, and build lasting professional relationships.
Ability to interpret sales metrics and market data and translate insights into practical growth opportunities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present books with clarity and enthusiasm.
Highly organized and able to prioritize competing tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple accounts effectively.
Independent, proactive working style with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
Flexible and responsive, with the judgment to adjust strategies as markets and account needs change.
A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for connecting books with readers and communities.
Experience in the Christian market a plus.
