Job description
The Sarnova Family of companies includes Digitech Computer, Bound Tree Medical, Tri-anim Health Services and Cardio Partners.
Digitech is a leading provider of advanced billing and technology services to the EMS transport industry. Since its founding in 1984, Digitech has refined its software platform to create a cloud-based billing and business intelligence solution that monitors and automates the entire EMS revenue lifecycle. Digitech leverages its proprietary technology to offer fully outsourced services that maximize collections, protect compliance, and deliver results for clients.
Summary:
The Patient Research Specialist plays a critical role in Digitech’s revenue cycle by ensuring that all patient and insurance information is accurate, complete, and ready for claim coding and billing. This position is responsible for reviewing EMS patient care reports (PCRs), researching insurance coverage, validating demographic details, and identifying missing or inaccurate data before claims move forward in the billing workflow.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys research, problem‑solving, working in a fast‑paced environment, and managing multiple tasks with precision. The Patient Research Specialist helps ensure clean claims and supports timely and accurate reimbursement for our EMS clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive, review, and process EMS patient care reports (PCRs) for assigned clients, ensuring all cases are handled promptly and accurately
Research, gather, and verify insurance information, using internal systems, online tools, and external payer resources to confirm active coverage for the date of service
Validate demographic data, including patient name, date of birth, mailing address, and other required identifiers—performing additional research when information is incomplete or missing
Confirm insurance eligibility and correct payer sequencing to support proper billing and claim adjudication
Identify discrepancies or missing data and take proactive steps to resolve them before claims are submitted for coding
Document all findings, updates, and corrections within the appropriate systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal standards
Collaborate with internal teams, including Coding, QA, Client Services, and other billing departments, to resolve questions and ensure smooth workflow transitions
Maintain productivity targets and turnaround times, meeting daily and weekly expectations for assigned client volumes
Support special assignments or tasks as directed by the Department Manager, including overflow work, data cleanup, and quality improvement initiatives
Additional job duties as assigned
Skills/Experience Required:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Strong ability to multi‑task and manage competing priorities with accuracy
Ability to work independently and remain focused in a remote, deadline‑driven environment
Collaborative team player with the ability to communicate professionally with internal departments and external partners
Pleasant, professional, and customer‑focused demeanor
Ability to maintain composure and deliver quality work under pressure
Strong computer literacy, including comfort working with dual monitors and navigating multiple systems simultaneously
Excellent follow‑through, attention to detail, and accuracy in data review
Strong written communication skills, including grammar and documentation clarity
Ability to meet strict deadlines while maintaining high-quality work
Reliable, punctual, and dependable with strong work accountability
Quick learner who takes clear, organized notes during training
Comfortable asking questions and seeking clarification when needed
Ability to independently manage all aspects of the job role including required goals and business practices in a remote environment
