I. Position Summary

The Expeditor position is responsible for facilitating kitchen orders, maintaining quality control, and monitoring food safety.

II. Essential Functions:

1. Ensuring communication in the kitchen by calling out orders, getting the status on dishes, and calling the waitstaff to serve completed dishes.

2. Informing the waitstaff when certain dishes or ingredients have run out and passing food requests from the waitstaff to the kitchen.

3. Monitoring the food portions on completed dishes according to restaurant standards.

4. Ensuring that all orders are completed in time and with the correct priority.

5. Inspecting the cleanliness, presentation, and temperature of completed dishes.

6. Performing the finishing touches to completed dishes, such as adding garnishes and removing smudges.

7. Keeping the cooking, storage, and prep areas clean, neat, and well-stocked.

8. Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety standards.

9. Assisting all staff as needed.

10. Handling customer complaints on behalf of the kitchen staff and looking for solutions.

11. Complete other duties as assigned by shift supervisor or management. 

III. Additional Responsibilities

1. Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness and work with a minimum of supervision.

2. Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger.

3. Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks at once.

4. High school diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate required.

5. Must be available to work a flexible schedule including mornings, nights, weekends and holidays as business dictates.

6. Advanced ability to comprehend and speak English to understand and respond to information and address advanced guest requests required both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of additional language(s) preferred.

7. This position will be required to maintain a valid and unexpired California Food Handler’s card on file.

V. Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not manage direct reports. 

VI. Position Type And Expected Hours Of Work

This is a part-time position. Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, they will be required to work a flexible schedule that meets business and operational demands. Thusly, their schedule will include evenings, weekends and holidays.

VII. Work Environment

This position operates in the Kitchen and Jack O’Neill Restaurant, which has a noisy and high temperature environment.

IX. Preferred Education and Experience

1. Some High School

2. 1-2 years of directly related work experience

X. Additional Eligibility Qualifications

3. Basic knowledge of the English language
