Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction.

Shelving Assistant

Whiteman - 451 Newport St. Denver, CO, 80220 

SY26-27- $20.50 hourly (Part-Time) 

189 days,  days, 2.5 hours daily; estimated 0745 - 1015

Overview of position: 

The Shelving Assistant provides support to the library staff by stocking shelves, accepting and moving library orders, and may on occasion interact with and help students ranging from ages 4 - 10 years old. They will function as an assistant to the Whiteman Librarian and report to the Whiteman campus Principal. 

The strongest applicants will have familiarity working in school libraries, protocols and policies; have a strong proclivity for manual labor, and enjoy working with students, teachers, and the library staff.

This is a part-time position that is expected to report to the Whiteman campus Monday - Friday from [do we know what time this person will be present or is that flexible?]. 

Pay and Benefits:

• Employees at DLS are compensated in accordance with other Denver-area charter schools. This position is paid at a rate of $20.50 hourly, for a gross annual salary of $9,568. 

Please note: The above salary represents full-time employment for a full school year. The DLS will prorate the actual salary based on the number of days worked. For SY26-27, assuming a Monday Nov. 2nd 2026 start date, we project 121 contact days at 2.5 hours per day for a total of $6202 (rounded).

• Employees' children get priority in student enrollment, but there is no guarantee of enrollment due to seat availability.

Essential Functions and Objectives 

• Carries boxes from book orders
• Helps maintain and clean the library 
• Reshelves books that are returned
• Effective communication with families, students, and teachers/librarians
• Other duties as assigned

• Can carry and lift 50 -100 pounds comfortably on a regular basis. 
• Is comfortable walking, standing and performing moderate physical activity for up to 2.5 hours at a time.
