Job description

About the Position

FSS Technologies is hiring an Inspector Apprentice to learn how to inspect and test fire alarm and sprinkler systems. No industry experience is needed. We’re looking for someone who is good with their hands, likes figuring out how things work, and wants to build a career in life safety. You’ll start by working alongside experienced inspectors and take on more responsibility as your skills grow.

What You’ll Do

  • Help inspect and test fire alarm and sprinkler systems under the direction of experienced inspectors.
  • Learn to find and document problems with systems and equipment.
  • Learn to complete accurate inspection reports.
  • Learn and follow NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures.
  • Help explain inspection results to customers.
  • Support service technicians when repairs are needed.
  • Keep tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas safe and organized.
  • Complete required training, both on the job and in the classroom or online.

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Mechanical aptitude: you’re comfortable using hand and power tools and like taking things apart, fixing them, or understanding how they work. Trade, mechanical work, maintenance, plumbing, electrical, automotive, farming, or military experience is a plus but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets our insurance requirements.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Good communication skills and a professional attitude with customers.
  • Basic computer or tablet skills.

Physical Requirements

The following are essential parts of this job. We will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Walk on uneven surfaces and work in tight or confined spaces.
  • Wear required PPE and follow OSHA and company safety rules at all times.

Schedule & Benefits

  • Full-time, with travel to customer locations up to 40% of the time.
  • Some after-hours or weekend work may be required.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • 401(k).
  • Paid training and a clear path to grow into an Inspector role.
  • Company gas card for work travel.
  • Company vehicle may be assigned after 90 days of employment, based on availability, job needs, and driving record.

We protect lives and property by keeping life safety systems working. If you’re mechanically minded and want a skilled trade without the student debt, we’ll train you and give you room to grow.

Employment with FSS Technologies is at-will.
