Field Service Technician/Line Bore Welder Position Purpose
Responsible for various forms of complex repairs on heavy equipment while specializing in welding and line-bore work.- Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
- Performs repairs and maintenance with little or no direct supervision
- Diagnoses and evaluates problems with equipment; makes repairs using established guidelines in accordance with established flat rates
- Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles components, and tests and adjusts assemblies
- Establishes methods and sequences for performing assigned repairs
- Demonstrates safe work practices and consistently follows all safety policies and procedures
- Organizes, cleans, and maintains a safe work area and equipment; maintains equipment in good working condition
- Contributes to departmental and product line goals
- Completes required paperwork efficiently and timely
- Attends training as specified by supervisor
- Promotes goodwill with customers and exhibits excellent customer relations behaviors
- Welds components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
- Repairs machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Tests and inspects welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws
- Performs line boring and machining work at customer's job sites
- Consistent and reliable on-site attendance
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Field Service Technician/Line Bore Welder Minimum Qualifications
- High School Education or equivalent
- Two (2) years of continuous machine shop experience is desired, including experience with line boring processes and welding, preferably in a repair or equipment maintenance-related environment
- Ability to read complex hydraulic and electrical schematics
- Furnish and maintain a set of hand tools and any special tools required by the company
Field Service Technician/Line Bore Welder Physical Requirements
- Pushes/Pulls/Lifts/Carries up to 50 pounds without assistance
- Physical ability to squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb, and reach overhead
- Must be able to work in extreme heat or cold and wet, damp, dusty, or windy conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises, hazardous materials, and fumes/odors
- Physical ability to perform maintenance on equipment for extended hours of time with continual mounting and dismounting throughout the workday
- Ability to adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition
