Job description

Job Summary: Full-time 3rd shift available, PRN weekend shifts available

The Phoenix Center is a voluntary, 8-bed residential program at the RiverValley Center in Owensboro for adults in a mental health crisis. It is an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization: intensive support, but in a setting closer to a home than a hospital.

The Intervention Specialist provides direct care and support services to adults receiving crisis stabilization services at the Phoenix Center. This role focuses on monitoring client safety, physical and mental status, and daily functioning while supporting program operations and maintaining a therapeutic milieu. The Intervention Specialist works closely with clinical, nursing, and peer support staff to ensure safe, coordinated, and recovery-oriented care.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct care and supervision to adults residing in the Phoenix Center to ensure safety, stability, and adherence to program expectations.
  • Monitor and observe clients’ physical, emotional, and behavioral status throughout shifts, identifying changes in presentation, mood, behavior, or functioning.
  • Promptly report changes in client condition, safety concerns, or behavioral observations to the treatment team in accordance with established protocols.
  • Support the therapeutic milieu by fostering a calm, respectful, structured, and trauma-informed environment.
  • Assist clients with daily routines and scheduled activities, including groups, personal care, leisure activities, and wellness activities as assigned.
  • Complete admission and discharge processes, including orientation to the unit, review of rules and expectations, and completion of required documentation.
  • Assist with meal preparation, meal service, and cleanup for clients and staff in accordance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain unit cleanliness, organization, and safety, including monitoring common areas as required.
  • Support de-escalation efforts using approved techniques and follow safety protocols during behavioral or crisis situations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment team members, including clinicians, nurses, peer support specialists, and supervisors, to support coordinated care.
  • Accurately and timely complete required documentation, logs, and reports in compliance with RiverValley Behavioral Health policies and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in shift handoffs, staff meetings, training, and supervision as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, as necessary to support program
